DOCUMENTARY THEATRE
Secret Histories: Oxford
Secret Histories: Oxford was a documentary community-based theatre piece I wrote and directed, in association with Ping Chong & Co. Members from a small town in Mississippi tell their stories set against the backdrop of history. “For a single transcendent moment, each individual, audience members and performers alike, becomes part of something larger. One community.” Performed at the Powerhouse Theatre, Oxford MS, 2009 |
(M)others
At San Jose State I directed (M)others, based on interviews with Black and Latinx mothers of young men of color who had been shot by the police.
(M)others included powerful post-show discussions involving members of the community affected by this crisis. The discussions not only opened a space for public discourse, but also brought attention to the proposed Police Accountability and Community Protection Act (AB-931) in this community.
